FIFA launch biggest ever inquiry

FIFA have launched the biggest inquiry in their history into the violence at the end of the Turkey-Switzerland World Cup play-off.

Players and coaching staff clashed at the end of the Istanbul leg of the game, both on on the pitch and then in the tunnel.

Footage showed Switzerland's Benjamin Huggel clearly kicking a member of the Turkish coaching staff, while Stephane Grichting was taken to hospital with a groin injury after fighting continued in the tunnel.

A FIFA spokesman who has swallowed a dictionary said: "In terms of scope it is the most voluminous disciplinary investigation in our history.

"We have begun the enquiry in Zurich today which will involve interviewing more than 20 people.

"These include the two national coaches, players, officials and technical staff from both countries.

"Because of the scale of the inquiry and the possible sanctions we have to ensure that legally everything is done exactly right."

FIFA Preseident Sepp Blatter has not only promised that the investigation will be concluded by the World Cup draw on December 9, but also that both countries could be suspended if they are found guilty of gross misconduct.

Steady lar!
