Great game guys... like what Charlton said, we could have either won or lost it... so a draw is probably a fair result.

Now we just need to train our stamina for 90 minutes and we will be fearless =)

Yeah...
It is quite obvious that all of us lack the stamina to last 90 mins...
We always manage to start the game well but end weakly....

Nevertheless, we have many chances to seal the game when the score is 3-1 but lucky to snatch the draw at the end...

Anyway, see u guys at the training tomoro...

Hi guys, the turnout was overwhelming!
Alson was absolutely critical upfront. Overall, it was a good game, full 90mins of action which ended with a fair result for both teams.
I’ll be arrange for the 2nd leg on 5th mar 06 @ Tanjong Katong sec school.
Will keep you guys updated.

Cheers

post match review

starting line up -
goalie - Thomas
Leftback - herman
rightback - nam sing
centerback - alvin, gerald
defensive mid - donn / qingfa
center mid - charlton
left wing - ting fu
right wing - boon heng / kok liang
attacking mid - hosoon / adrian
striker - alson

1st half -
1st goal scoring opportunity went to boon heng and shortly afterwards, we scored the 1st goal through a set piece, when donn hit a freekick upwards and charlton's shot was slightly deflected into opponents goal. Tingfu tested the keeper well with a great shot. Very soon, the opponent got a player sent off when their player caught me with late tackle, and boon heng went to confront the player. The referee (simon the taxi driver) gave opponent a straight red card and gave boon heng a yellow card. The opponent however were allowed to send a replacement for the red-carded player since it was friendly. Later we learnt that the player was having his debut for SGx.. what a debut. Around the 25 minute mark, against run of play, SGX scored a freak goal when a high looping ball or short went over thomas into the net... it reminded me like ronaldinho's world cup goal against england. however, the 1 goal lead was put back into place when our towering striker, none other than usual suspect alson sneaked the 2nd goal into the back of the net. Alvin also contributed to the score from corner when their defence failed to clear the danger. Almost towards the end of the 2nd half, the opponents were awarded a penalty when a 50/50 collision in the penalty box between our goalie and their striker... Their penalty was poorly taken and missed the target..

2nd half, we made some changes to the line up
goalie - Ivan
leftback - herman
rightback - nam sing can't remember ?
centerback - alvin, Thomas
defensive mid - hosoon / anthony chua
left mid - ting fu
right mid - kok liang
center mid - qingfa
attacking mid - gerald
striker - charlton

from the start of the 2nd half the opponents seem to have us on the back pedal all the while.. the opponents seem to be camping in our half for most of the time. they quickly pulled one goal back with a well taken defense splitting pass and finished passed coolly. The opponents equalizer came when a corner kick was dangerously swerved into our goal posts and our goalie couldn't manage to put it out of the net. some scary moments also included conceding a 2nd penalty, but they missed again. another goal line clearance was required when they had another corner. We also had defensive mixed ups when short goal kick variation almost handed the opponents a clear run at goal.
We also had our chances at the other end when a goal mouth scramble was stoutly challenged and forced wide. Qingfa also came closed when his shot off a free kick came off the post.

Positives from the game:
1) The positions which we experimented in the first half gave us chance to discover very natural positions for the following players
Herman - we all know that he can really play left back well.. also excellent goal kicks
Gerald - gave us the size and pace at the back, the new sol campbell of the season?
Alvin - His doggedness and stout defending reminds me of martin keown .. seems like a excellent centerback/stopper in the makings

For the 2nd Leg,

If SGX's 2 really fast front man are in their line up again, I propose that we switch our formation to deal with their threat..

4 - 2 - 3 - 1

or

4 - 3 - 2 - 1 (christmas tree)

4-2-3-1 for a offensive line up with 2 defensive midfielders..

4-3-2-1 - if we ever get into the lead again !

we have more than enough guys to play this formation and not leave a hold in the midfield

Goalie - Thomas / Ben / Anthony
Left Back - Herman
Right Back - Nam Sing / ??
Centerback - Gerald / Alvin / Thomas / Ivan / Alex hay
Defensive Mid - Donn / Qingfa / Jovan / Anthony Chua
Center Mid - Charlton / Qingfa / Adrian / Gerald /
Left Mid - Ting fu
Right Mid - Kent / Kok Liang / Wei Jie / Ivan Kwek
Attacking Mid - Jovan / Charlton / Me / Boon Heng
Striker - Alson / Boon Heng / Me / Charlton

Well done for the make shift defense..... seems tat we haf potential candidates for the new Bugis Beatles defense... Comin wif a string of not so positive results certainly affected our confidence ( at least for me) in our usual passing game.... The 3 -3 result seem to be a fair one as both teams dont deserved to lose that day.

It was a game of two halfs- where we probably played better in the first half and our oppenents dominated the second..

Nevertheless Kudos to all the players to make the efforts to be in the game ..

The goal mouth scramble came from a corner which was the result of the opponent's keeper saving a wicked shot from Tingfu after some good play from our right midfield.  Who was the one from our team who drifted the ball from right midfield in between their defence??... that was great vision =)
