Match vs Kok Liang's Friend - Match Report

It was a match that saw the beatles dominate possession and play but failed to finish off the opponents. The opponents came with only 9 men and our boys Ivan Quek and Kok Liang joined the opponents to even things up.

Starting Line up - 4-5-1
Goalie - Anthony Left back - Herman
Centerback - Gerald, Alvin
Rightback - Phillip
Defensive Midfield - Donn
Left mid - Ting Fu
Center Midfield - Charlton
Right Mid - Wei Jie
Attacking Mid - Ho soon
Striker - Boon Heng

For the first team in a long time, we had a respectable backline that was missing for the past year, depriving us of the stability we needed at the back. As the first half started, the beatles controlled midfield and was chasing opponents down in their own half. Seems like this time we were very pumped up and dying to reverse our losses/draws in our previous games. The opponents seemed small to lack size and we imposed our physical dominance over them right from the start of the whistle although we weren't roughing things up. After discovering that the right side of the opponents were rather weak, Wei Jie and Ting Fu switched flanks early on. As the game proceeded, our possession in their half started to increase as their goalie couldn't really take long goal kicks, leaving us an early chance to dispossess their midfield and defenders. We had few balls played into the box but no real clear chances as their defence struggled to contain us.

Around the 15-20 minute mark into the game, and totally against the run of play, Ivan quek who was having a inspired game for the opponents, ran down our left flank and took a adventurous shot from a tight angle. Alvin, the nearest defender blocked with his outstretching legs, but strangely, the ball seeming to have a mind of his own decided to loop over anthony and into goal. It was a rather freak goal from the opponents. 0-1 down at this stage. Ting Fu also had to leave as he injured his shin while shooting at goal. However, with the strong mentality that beatles were having, we pulled a goal back from a corner. An inswinging corner from herman, was met with flick by me at the near post. Alvin(who else then our goal scoring defender), loitering in the opponents box, smashed home the equaliser and beatles were back ... Yeah !!!!!...... We continued our dominance and were almost put through when charlton, making his penetrative runs into the box was almost put clear, but their defence managed to recover in time.

Starting Line up - 4-4-2
Goalie - Anthony Leftback - Herman
Centerback - Gerald / Alvin
Rightback - Nam Seng
Right Wing - Kent
Defensive mid - Thomas
Center mid - Qing fa
Left Wing - Ho Soon -
Striker - Boon Heng / Alson

In the second half, the pattern of play continued as what we expected. Opponents sitting back deep in their half. Alson, our defense tormentor stretched their back line all the way back to their penatly box, leaving a huge space right in front of their midfield for us to play. Thomas and Qingfa were dominated the early possession. Kent was also also starting to make his trademark darting runs down the right side of midfield. I was also having a nice time making short passes with herman, qingfa and thomas and boon heng. Early on in the second half, with a early ball played to me, i quickly stroke it down for Kent to go clear. Still with lots of work to do, he squeezed past their last defender and finished it with aplomb to reflect the dominance that beatles were having.

Meanwhile, the defence were holding really well with Alvin defending very stoutly and Gerald over powering their weak strikers.. Out of nowhere, when their attackers had the 2nd shot of goal, they managed to score with a well taken volley that found its way to the back of the net.Amazing - opponents had only 2 real shots and 2 goals up till now .... seems destined for us not to win... smell a jinx anyone?. We were guilty of trying to play the ball out of the box and should have cleared it out... Alson had a chance to score during another corner with a strong header but their keeper was well placed. We also had some shots at goal, but all went wayward as we left our goal scoring boots at home.. Time I changed new pair of boots as well.. The game carried on and subsitutes weiije, philip and charlton were re-introduced back into the game.

Nam Seng seemed to came forward exploit the space to help our midfield as our defence seem to have not much to do. Gerald also nearly gave us some scary moments when his clearance fell straight into their player and went through on goal. Fortunately, Gerald managed to recover well. As the game approached the last 10 minutes... their pyscho player who was supposedly "injured" outside the pitch came in and gave a lunging elbow at Charlton. Immediately, Gerald went up to confront him with his "boobies". Their Pyscho then used his arms to retalitate and simon (oh simon thats 4 red cards for our oppostion so far) red carded him.. I didn't manage to see the action from my angle, but alot of dramatics and thomas was involved with some fisting action.. whole pitch was chaotic and finally simon abandoned the match with the final whistle.. maybe someone involved in this melee can submit this report..

Ting Fu provided some comedy relief after the final whistle was blown as he quickly ran down to his favourite left midfield position thinking that the game was to continued..... In a nutshell, this was a much better performance.. the measure of control we were having in midfield and confidence in stroking the ball around the midfield and backline was a refreshing change from the times we were pressured into losing posession in our previous games. The only dissapointment was we didn't finish our opponents off as we should have.

Few things to note:

*) Backline problem seems to be finally solved as they are now imposing their authority
*) 2nd half performance was reminisence of the old beatles glorious days .. industrious, fluid passing..solid teamwork !!
*) A match we have to take positives out of. but the opponents weren't pressurizing us on the ball, giving us time during possession.

Everyone deserved a pat on the back for a good performance... !

Last 5 mins..specifically..only 5 mins left..
Charlton was running back with the ball and then suddenly i noticed out of nowhere..the psycho appeared and shielded the ball from him..
i thot perhaps he can play le so came back into the game but he suddenly turned and faced charlton and pushed and manhandled him!
tried to throw an elbow but barely hit him..charlton was mad..but i was damn furious!5 mins only lei.!

then confronted him and ranted at him like how alex ferguson did!haha.then he showed tat kind of look like he is really out of control of himself..
gradually the crowd came and start to pull each other apart..then when i turned ard..thomas was holding him from behind..*thought something kinky gonna happen*haha..but after some tussle..they managed to separate the 2 of them and referee said this,"Get OUT! OUT! OUT NOW!I WANT U TO GO OUT!!ALL THE WAY THERE!!*pointing to the trees*OUT!!GET OUT!!"..

the whole incident is like this..pretty tensed till referee abandon the match
and ting fu relief the tension with some comical run and ran all the way to the left flank waiting for a "restart"..haha..

not a bad game though..but i fumble quite a bit cos of the "pressure of wanting to win"..haha..
still haven broken the barren run..but at least haven lost a game since playing centre back..haha*better than thinking of haven win a game till now!*=P

great report from ho soon.
and nice work, kok liang, for organizing the game.

a few things kinda hampered the fun we should have had today:
- opposition not having sufficient players
- having a psycho in the opposition team and ended our game abruptly

nevertheless, i thought u guys did very well today.
it has been a while since our offensive units have the luxury to attack without worrying about tracking back too often. much credits go to our guys in the backline.

nevermind the result for now, it has been delightful to see unity among the team, be it on or off the pitch (e.g. dealing with psycho hehe).
with signs of better committment and teamwork, it is a matter of time we see our next victory.

Steady lar!

Not sure if kok liang can provide some updates on his injured friend aka the pyscho. From the looks of it, he looked like his ankle or feet was badly injured to the point where he cannot even stand.

It is always sad to see players going out injured after a friendly match, whether our boys or the opposition boys. Like Kent said, we ain't paid 35000 pounds to play soccer. And for the record, I did not stamp on his feet to cause his injury. It was a 50-50 ball and either one of us could be injured! Somehow I still feel a little guilty about his injury.

Kok Liang, can check it out?

Nam Sing,

I was directly beside you. Dun think there is too much contact.. he is probably wasting time as his team mate (aka no 9) is asking the whole team to do. However, he snapped when I confronted him and challenged him to one on one

agree with the guys.
if you observed how he can tackle charlton, walk and squall during the argument, i doubt much harm is done from your tackle.

its not as if our guys werent injured.
both kok and tingfu took some knocks during the game but they took it very well.

i confronted the opposition and they explained it is because he had a really bad day.
thus, i personally think he is just a overgrown kid who want to tell the whole world that he is going thru some sorta bad patch, and unfortunately, we had a play a part to his tantrum.

Steady lar!

back 4 is good... or i have to say defence is good...  but hor...

still have to listen to goalie....  cos i will be the last man... its not an excuse saying never play with me before...  cos i am quite vocal to those that have played with me...

so the conclusion is that i still need to play more match with the defenders?  =P

ok joke aside....  for defenders and midfilders that are in the panalty box.. please be aware that we are still not up to that level of playing confidently in the box....  so if next time whoever is to get a ball in front of their feet, its either(i will rank with top priority) (1) wack to opposition side(at least to the other half), or (2) wack it out to the side... and of cos lastly (3) wack it out for a corner.... this will really do alot of help to me...

but a note for gerald :

u are quite lucky cos this team did not play by looping over you for the striker or midfilders to out ran you as you was far too away....  i did witness alot of match where how the attacking team score a goal by this tactic....   so if anyone wanna go up front...  do make sure every its covered at the last man before considering going up.....

and a note for all whom does know :

if the last man is at opponent side of the field and if opponent happen to wack a ball over to our side, there will never be an offside committed even if opponents is behind our last man....  (hope its not too confusing for all to read).....

i have to apologise for bad form too...  due to sprain of right ankle...   my goal kick(thou i havnt kick it to opponent halfs before with bugis beatle) suxs....   but luckily i didnt get to kick much of it the last match.. thanks to the defenders....

good news is we have bounce back... we are stronger then before.... and we will be better as days go by....  kudos to all whom have make the effort to come for regular kick about...   our stamina had improved too....    so till then...  we shall meet in the next meeting...

chaos

just to elaborate a little on this: meaning that if the last man is standing beyond halfway line/opponent's half, offside rule does not stand.
in another word, offside rule only works in our own half.
