credits to nam sing, for organising this match.

good game beatles. thought u guys did well to contain the opposition.

seems like saturday isnt the best day of the week to arrange a game, with the team having barely 2 substitutes.

it was tough on the beatles as re-organising was required on a many occasions. we had to start off with alex as keeper and anthony chua as centreback to facilitate the goal kick. with that, the rest were collateral.

nevertheless, everyone performed well as a team even when many are playing in their unfamiliar positions. i thought it was a feat to be at 1-1 at half time with alvin slot home a penalty.

with our first choice keeper arriving before half time, we seem more comfortable in the second half.

we had a few good chances overall but failed to make them count. and had to see the opposition walk away with a 3-1 victory.

Steady lar!

Match: Beatles vs Avago (Agilent)
Venue: Tanglin
Date: 22 April 2006 9:00am

Starting line up  : 4-5-1
GK - Alex Hay / Anthony
RB - Nam Seng
CB - Gerald / Alvin
LB - Anthony Chua
LM - Ting Fu
RM - Kent
CM - Adrian / Donn / Charlton
OM - Ho Soon
ST - Boon Heng

This was a game that saw the beatles missing few of the regulars..
The match started out on a slippery pitch which made passing difficult as well as a lot of players losing their footing.
The first opening exchanges saw both teams probing each other's defences.
Avago had us on the back foot very soon as their backline which was very well organized spread the ball effectively as they used the width of the pitch to their advantage.
Our Defense however was aptly marshalled by Gerald and gang. It was Advago who first came close to scoring with a shot which rocked the upright and a long range shot which spun off Alex's body and over the goal.
On our end, we had Boon Heng with a couple of very close chances that saw their keeper making a last minute goal line save.

As the match went on, the opponents stranglehold in the midfield ran our defense ragged. A speculative shot from far skidded past Alex and into the goal. 0-1 down.. Their goal was deserving given the amount of possesion and chances which they created.
Towards the closing of the first half, we earned a corner and as the ball was crossed in by Kent, a dummy by me saw Charlton with a left footed effort headed away from the line by their defender. The clearance fell in between Kent and me.
As I was shielding the ball and awaiting for Kent to pounce on the loose ball, their defender from behind was adjudged to have been pushing me from behind, the referee - simon blew for a penalty.
Alvin came out and called for the responsibility to take the penalty which was dispatched into the bottom left corner with lethal accuracy.
1-1 at half time.. not too bad .. a generous penalty decision in favour of us..

2nd half line ups : 4-5-1
GK - Anthony
RB - Alex Hay
CB - Gerald / Alvin
LB - Nam Seng / Micheal (Alex's Friend)
LM - Ting Fu
CM - Adrian / Charlton
RM - Boon Heng
OM - Ho Soon / Kent
ST - Anthony Chua

After the break, their kick-off almost lead to a goal as their shot from the half of the pitch almost caught Anthony in a moment of hesitation. But Anthony tipped over the shot with a firm arm. Phew! almost reminded us of the previous goals we gave away.
The opponents who dictated much of the play, although we had sporadic patches in the half where we had very close chances as well.
The opponents were playing like typical english team - prefering to break down the flanks and crossing into the box. Their players in the middle were also making good runs and taking shots outside of the box. Anthony was around again to deny them.
It wasn't long before they scored the 2nd goal when a clearance rebounded off Alvin and their striker slotted it into goal
Chances also fell into our way as Adrian could have scored at the other end. Our players were also guilty of over-playing the ball when through on goal as they decided to pass rather than shoot, causing offside to be blown by the Referee. Perhaps its time for more shots outside the box from our midfielders ??
When the opponents killed the game with a headed goal, it was over for us. However, it was an enjoyable game as we also caused plenty of scare for their goal end.
It was a game where the opponents who seemed very confident of stroking the ball around, especially their defenders and midfielders deserved victory. There's plenty to learn from them.
It was also nice to see that we finished a game without abandoning the pitch like the previous 2 encounters...

Things to learn from opponents:
We need to learn from opponent how to use the full width of the pitch, like their RB and LB. (altough we were missing herman)
Our midfielders lacked ball-holding, passing players.. Ball shielding needs to improve.
Midfielders need to support each other more with off the ball running.

Observations:
We lacked shooting from outside... over reliant on strikers to finish off.. Midfielders need to be more confident to take shots.
Ting Fu's plan of running straight at their defence sometimes can lead to 2 things - opponents too aware of this tactic & if he's too fast, no one in box for him to cross to.But he had a long day as needed to cover defense as well as lack of Herman during 2nd Half
Overall, it was not a bad effort as we created enough chances to have competed against the opponents as we lacked our usual regulars.

Yup, we lost to the better team tat day... INdeed the oppenent has more composure and better game plan where they utilised the flanks to good effect. The pitch was slippery and wet but the oppenent controllled the ball better and started to bombard us from the flanks...and start taking pot shots from distance...Butwe had our moments too.......

We need to be more composed on the ball and more off the ball running.....I think its one of the more enjoyable game i had despite losing...we learnt some thing from their play but i believed we stand a chance the next time we meet them...

Rematch? Game On? Any one?

......Joga Bonita.......

Rematch? Did I hear rematch??

Well certainly we can play against them, maybe over a drier pitch.

Simon commented that they are a very good team, as in not a 'fighters' team, but who are gracious in tackles and not wanting to punch anyone when being tackle. The same comments from Simon also apply to our team. Probably due to Alson did not play!

glad to see high spirits among players despite the result.
we should take it positively and try to improve our teamplay and mutual understandings from there.

because it is rather difficult for us to implement rigid training programmes, i suggest we incorporate certain theme while we enjoy each kickaround. e.g. passing game, one-two, ball-shielding

sounds vitable?

i think we shoud do more in our usual kickarounds
probably can play some monkey to improve passing?
during the kickabouts, we could do with some push ups for the team that concede? so as to promote more match spirit and an incentive?
i dunnoe..it;s only my suggestions.
