in term of sound quality, inbuilt speakers are never good.
but for convenience sake, headphone and usb device can be plug onto the monitor...

To me cost is the differentiator. I would go for LG. Cheap and good. I had a Flatscreen LG TV three years ago and it is still superb!!

Another way to get them cheap, Kent, which I always use, is to go to Courts. Check out the display set and ask whether are they for sale. Normally if they do you could get like 15 to 20% off. My workstation LCD panel is from HP and cost me 40% less the retail price!

samsung LCD and LG technology should be almost on par...

samsung is the market leader in LCD these days ... followed by philips, LG

just had a samsung LCD 17" sent for repair and had its PCB replaced because it blanks out when changing resolution..
the servicing is onsite 3 years .. so the technician will come to your home. that should be what you are looking at vs the lesser known brands where you have carry-in warranty.

the price you get at sim lim is around 10-20 dollars above reseller price.. thats their margin that the sim lim shops earn.

HP resolution also losing out to Samsung.. did a comparison as customer bought both from me.

just like what kent said, forget about the speakers, get a proper speaker.

btw, i'm speaking because i've sold and personally used a lot of LCDs

Just to add to Ho Soon's recommendations, the other most important apects next to after you compare the response time, view angle, blah blah blah:

  • 3 years onsite warranty

what more to say when you can shake leg at home instead of travelling to their service centre to repair your monitor

  • zero dead pixel warranty(1 problem pixel and they will change for you)

Even if the price is slightly higher than those with 2 or more dead pixel, go for the one with zero dead pixel warranty. Its very important.
Base on my users feedback(and my own), it gets on their nerves when you have a problem dot on your LCD and you can do anything about it!!!
My advice to them when it happens is I will ask them to poke on the screen more often and make more problem pixels. haha

btw i don't own any LCD monitor yet because I am waiting for bigger screens but my company uses LCD monitors. hehe

idea. just that i am quite particular when it comes to electronic and computer products. coz one never know how extensively did they utilise those display set.
think i could adopt that with other items like furnitures where flaws are easily spotted.

i think go without those speakers.
more component = more component for the device to break down.

I think benq also not bad. my friend test lcd monitors and so far recommend benq.

i just bought one for less than 500. 19"

also, if space is a constrain/concern for you, i woule suggest you lookout for the total space saved.

ie how far back it can go towards the end of the wall or your desk. so LCD had quite bulky back and would take up quite some space.. defeat the purpose./
