Finally passed my license..

was planning to buy a new manual transmission car but was advised by friend that manual car resale value is lesser.

He also advise me to get a resale "bumper" car with good paper value to drive for 6months - 1 year to hone my driving skills as new driver usually encounter minor accidents..
When more or less familiar with the road and already had enough fun with manual car, then buy a brand new auto one.

The plan is to get a old car with high paper value so that anytime can scrap it even if the car when bought is found out to have lots of problem.

Does what he says make sense? What is a good recommendation of a bumper car?

Well.. if u think u need road practice, a resale car will be good.

However, the admin and insurance work tell me you might be better off getting a brand new one.

Your friend is partially right about resale value of auto and manual car. To be frank, as long as it is resale car, there is little value. This is due to brand new cars becoming cheaper. I was in the same dilemma previously too. However, decided to go for brand new car instead due to the above reasons.

Haa.. i agree. Just signal and go. no need to check... cos if kana, you will hear a very loud bang!

anyway i think get new car better as Thomas mention its not much difference. and a second hand car, will set you back abt 2k+ in terms of transfer fee and "football" money...

Eh Ah Soon...if u r not those "boy-racer" kind of driver...no need buy manual car cos SGP road condition "kills" u when stuck in traffic or worse multi-storey carpark especially all e slopes in shopping ctr.
New car prices r so low now & value for $$.
If u worry about going onto roads...drive & practise around ur neighborhood for few days & can go up to major roads & expressway.

I saw a black Crossroad yesterday at Katong.

Very nice, looks like armoured vehicle.
