hi all,
sometimes ago, donn suggested implementing some sorta of membership fee system, which I was quite reluctant to do so because of the logistics involved. however, after discussing with some of our senior players, i believe it is now the right time to do it.
i've calculated that the expenses required in booking the pitch for the entire 2009 (between Jan to Oct) and it works out to be around $1100. (44 weeks x $25). with consideration that we have approximately 18 regular players, we need $60 per players to reach that $1100. if you average it out, $60 for 44 weeks of football is less than $2 per person. in fact, it is less than $1.50.
with this move, we hope that it can iron out 2 problems: cut down on the constant financial strain in our team fund (we are still in deficit) and hopefully bring commitment to a certain level (since u already pay for it, might as well play for it). the more you play, the more your contributions will be worthwhile.
any surplus will spill over to the following year and also help to sustain the web hosting fee for our website. i will also book according to how the collected fund can brings me.
this above implementation cannot take place without your support. thus, below are my action plans in accordance to how the team react to it.
1. Are you keen to join a $60 membership for the year of 2009? yes or no, please indicate by end of next week. if i see more than 10 positive response, i will start booking for the month of january. otherwise, i will just procrastinate the booking till there are 10 keen responses. (of course, dont stop just at 10 as the actual target is at least 18 positive responses) 2. How are the money collected? once this plan works out, you can pass me the money during one of the training sessions, bank transfer to me or c/o one of the players.
3. Can I still opt out but still join on adhoc basis? yes. we will be collecting $5 from player who prefer not to join the membership list, but on a per attendance basis. 4. Wouldn't new players lugi if they join in midway? new players to the team will contribute on a pro-rated amount.
i want you all to know that none of these thoughts are done for the sake of profiting. the effort involved outweigh any possibility of profiteering and there is too little to embezzle anyway. plus, i got boon heng to audit my collection. my only aim is to keep this team alive and this very much depends on you as well.
you are also welcome to provide feedback on how this can be streamlined with lesser effort.
thanks

i'm yet to see any non-profit organization can continue running w/o fund. pro players play to get paid; non-pro players pay to play. :) naturally it's time to implement the system. Kent, thks for the efforts. i'm shameful for not being able to join lately due to newborn n starting my own business. but deep down i wan tis club to b ard when i'm back. so, me ok. :)

Would love to play every weekend, esp now that Liverpool is sitting pretty on top of the table, but guess I've to take at least a one year break until my kids grow up.
Will come and join you guys ad hoc if I can.

Yo, its a very good plan to get longer term commitment, count me in as well. I will not be in singapore for the months of jan and feb so please dont write me off haha..
some other ideas to bounce ard the team
1. once we got the funds - we can then apply to various type of venue like futsal etc if the team prefer.. 2. when existing paying members bring their friends along (new blood), their friends do not have to pay for 2 CONSECUTIVE sessions. this is to let those new blood try out playing with us without committing first. the 3rd sessions onwards will have to be a paying one - either via pro rated membership or per basis. This is sort of like existing members funding for new blood and also to encourage new comers to join us. Thats what i've seen being implemented in certain team sports like dragon boating, as well as those free 1 week trials you see in gym memberships hahah..

thanks for supporting the idea, folks. its encouraging to read that many of us still want to keep this team going, despite our personal commitment.
currently, we have 9 good responses. hopefully, we will see more support by mid week. (did i miss anyone out?) 1. kent 2. david 3. thomas 4. tingfu 5. alex 6. donn 7. kheng fatt 8. alson 9. charlton
kheng fatt, good point made. i suppose new player to the team should not be made to pay for the initial couple of sessions. after the fee has been collected, its easy to find out if there is surplus left for the year. IF we do, we can always indulge ourselves with a session at the cage.

Hi Kent, sorry for the super late reply, think I will not be able to come play on a regular basis, but maybe just probably on a ad-hoc basis will be ok for me, as now priority is given to wife as she is expecting. So, definitely looking forward to come down one of these sundays for some kick-around
