Hey guys,

We had our very first game of the year today, everyone work very hard. Good job!
Although, we did not win the game but at least we tied with our opponent. Cheers!

Apart from the above, I believe everyone got good and bad points, be it individual or team.
I would like to start this thread so everyone can talk about the strength & weakness about yourself and the entire team.
In this way,  l believe we might be able to know more about our teammates and also improve on our weakness.
Please bear in mind that this thread is not to scrutinise anyone. Objective is to understand one another better.
Let me start with mine........

Strength
1) Strong strikers with powerful shots.
2) Defenders are covering one another pretty well.
3) Good goalkeeping.
4) Better teamwork & coordination compare to 24th Jan 2010 training.

Weakness
1) Miss a couple of golden opportunities, shots too high.
2) Midfield not strong enough, usually opponents get the ball during goal kicks.
3) Defenders - clearing of ball not far enough

My weakness
1) Stamina not good enough - tend to lose ball easily when stamina runs low.
2) Needs more practice on volley
3) Shots not powerful enough.

Please share yours..................

I believe we could use a bit more steel in midfielf, someone who can dominate opponents in a no-nonsense way, a Roy Keane type character to win those 50-50 battles.

On my end, I feel I wasted quite a few good opportunites, no excuses for that really should have won it, and I should try to drop deeper to get more involved in play, rather than always sticking on the last man. I know I'm able to finish much better and will definitely work harder at it.

Go hard or go home.

Kind of like your Rooney style of playing.... keep ur powerful shots low and I believe we are not far from first victory of the year.

good analysis.

i like to give credits to our defenders (including the keeper) for neutralizing a series of opponents chances. they kept their line well.
we will need to focus more on individual defensive techniques such as:
- knowing how to shield the opponents away from your goal.
- throw-in. i can never emphasize enough on this topic; both on making a good throw and avoiding foul throw. we simply have to make good use of the possession that we earned.

among all positions, our central midfielders have the least time working with one another during trainings.
consider this fact, they have done well to provide support for both defenders and strikers.
we need to work on winning and keeping the ball in the middle of the park.
once we master that, it makes distribution so much easier.

strikers make their chances count, but at the same time, missed quite a few glaring opportunities today, partly because we are still not used to the physical nature of competitive football.
generally, we need to work on the art of finishing when under pressure. opponents aren't going to give us much time with the ball in their six yard box.

wingers put in quite a lot of effort. since we do not have the ability to dribble past 2-3 defenders confidently, learn to make good use of the full backs + midfielders to give you that extra yard of space.
after giving them the ball, make a run for it. they will always return it to you.
this is why 1-2 is such an important team skill to master.

overall, the whole team work well together. the scoreline didn't tell the full story.
let's make it so on our next game.

Steady lar!

Hi,

First Half

The game plan worked. We were instructed to pressure and press their balls in their own court to show them that what we are made of (Kent, 2010). Hahaha. It worked! They were quite shaky with some of their passes..allowing us to nick vital posession. I believe the 1st goal was largely a result of this. We were winning a few throw ins down at the right flank thanks to pressuring from Ren Jie which forced their LB to resort to some haphazard clearances. However, I must admit that we, as a team, let our foot off the pedal and allowed them to come back. I noticed that it was a gradual thing; they were winning the 2nd balls..and bit by bit, their confidence grew. Moral of the story: Keep up the pressure!! But this requires godly stamina..which requires more training on our part :) Also, this wasnt helped by the fact that our midfield were being outmuscled sometimes. ( I think this has been already mentioned in the earlier post)
Other than that, I felt that our passing was not bad. Not fantastic, true, but I think the overall accuracy was enough to threaten them.

Second Half
It was a complete reversal. Obviously the teamtalk helped. There was an added sense of urgency to our 1st half display and this resulted in near-total domination! I don't want to exaggerate, but guys! It was the fact! We created many openings and chances. But its a pity we failed to capitalize on this. I must say their goal was a sucker punch. Totally against the run of play. But shit happens.. glad we were able to pluck 1 goal back. (LIONEL!!) Hahah...

Weakness
Midfield - Not physical enough, didnt release the ball fast enough.
Strikers - Missed some great chances..On another day, the score might have been 5-2. :) As for myself, I felt that I could have done better with a chance..which I tried to placed into the top corner but it went straight to the GK. Really wasted after being put through by a great throughball from midfield! Also, if my anticipation was better and sharper, I would have been to reach the throughball from midfield..in the end, the GK got to the ball first. So yep, I;d have to work on these areas..

Strengths
Defense - I can go on and on about how solid the defense were. Woei was winning thousands of headers like nobody business and I thought it was really well organized. That aside, there were times when we had trouble hacking the ball out of our zone due to heavy pressuring from the opponents..
Midfield - Distribution was nice and I thought they supported the strikers quite well! One suggestion: Due to limited size of Bukit Merah Field..instead of playing the standard overhead long ball for strikers, how about doing the overhead chip? Yes it might be slower but at least theres a higher chance for strikers to outrun the backline, and latch onto it. Most of the time, the longballs ended up in the penalty area.

Conclusion
2-2 is merely a statistic. If possible, can we arrange another match with them next time in future? We can use them as a gauge to see how far we have progressed as a team! :)
Cheers and thanks everyone for the wonderful game.

Just wondering should we pull down both wingers abit to play 4-4-2 instead of what we are playing today 4-1-1-4 in order to strengthen midfield?

I think we did reasonably ok consider the fact that most of us have not been playing long enough with each other to build up our teamwork and coordination,as well as match fitness(esp ppl like me, old liao plus...lacked on match practice).

Our tactics did work and we created quite a lot of chances by using the direct route of attack. Once we play more games together and build up our match fitness and communication more, we should be ok.  One thing that impresses me today was the attitude and fighting spirit shown, with 3 mins to go, we still believe we can come back and when we got the equaliser, we still believe we can get another goal and kept fighting. Great spirit!

Must stress that my name is Lione, (pronounced Leon) not Lionel. haha.

Anyway to add on to what Elijah said I think the attack needs to work on the communication as well, I think we aren't really used to each other's style of play yet, with more games we shodule be able to play a more fluid attacking game.

Go hard or go home.

Whoops my bad. Haha. Yep..definitely more training would be great. Remember the Offense vs Defense during last week's practice? I think that'd do us wonders..

Hi David, no doubt that we played reasonably ok today and also everyone work extremely hard.

If we can gather all feedbacks and work hard on it, I think we are able to improve much faster.
