to play the game well, sometimes it pay to know the rules just as well. thought i start a thread to share our understandings in this aspect, esp those not-so-common rules, and those which we frequently commit unnecessarily.
we're never too old to know everything. if you have any doubt, pose it here and the team will try to answer it.
Q. Will the goal stands if I toss it straight from a throw-in? A. No. If's a defensive throw in, it would be a corner. If your opponent throw the ball directly (without any touches along the way) into the goal, it will be a goal kick.
Q. Will I be flagged offside from a throw-in or corner kick? A. No.
Q. Is there any offside if all my defenders are in the opposition half? A. No. Which is why it is important to have at least one player in your own half.
Q. Must goal kick always go beyond the penalty area? A. Yes. Else it will be re-taken.
will pose more along the way.

addition to some.....maybe not many ppl may know
Can the penalty taker pass the ball instand of shoot?
Yes.The rules do not say the taker must take shot during a penalty e.g. remember what Pires and Henry did during one of the past EPL Arsenal match.... :D
Can i shoot from the start of kickoff?
Yes. The rules say as long as the ball moves forward the game will start. REMEMBER!! it do not need a second player to touch the ball for the game to start. As long as the ball is kicked forward = start of game.

Q. When does the ref award indirect free kick? - obstruction - dangerous play - prevent keeper from releasing the ball
as for keeper, - hold on to the ball for more than 6 seconds. - handle backpass - handle a throw-in from team mate - touch the ball again, before the ball is touched by another player, after releasing the ball
Q. I stand between the opposition goal line and goalkeeper, is it possible that I can be called offside? A. Yes, if there's an opponent standing at the byline, with you between him and the keeper.

based on my understandings, that is not the case.
in the contary, any players (even the opposition) can be in the penalty area, which explains why the last man can take goal kick on behalf of the goalie. however, the ball has to leave the penalty area to be in play, which serve little purpose for the strikers to loiter inside the penalty area.

Q. The opponent took a quick free kick without waiting for the whistle. Does the goal stands? A. In most cases, yes. The attacking team has all the advantage and can choose to take a quick free kick (if the ref has no other chore e.g. booking a player). It is the defensive team duty to protect their goal. (e.g. standing in front of the ball till your wall is nicely formed up). For attacking team, you can ask for whistle if you want the wall to be 10 yards from u, else the ref has no obligation to regulate the wall.

Q. During throw in, can I fake my opponent by facing at one direction and throw at another direction? A. No, that would be a foul throw. But the trick is that you can quickly change where you are facing and release the throw. Whatever you do, your body has to face where you are throwing.

had this question just now while driving....
what determines a penalty during a corner kick... besides the usual handball....

on paper, any foul, be it handball, dangerous play, bad challenge, obstruction, shirt pulling and etc in the penalty area could result a spot kick.
however, the defending team usually has a little more advantage in getting away with petty foul inside the penalty area, as the ref usually point to the spot only when the infringement is apparent.
and all these don't really need to start from a corner kick, unless u want to know something more elaborate.

because i see normally penalty kicks are given most of the time because of shirt tugging.... is it really that strict ?

can shirt tuck if not obvious basically can do anything as long not get caught (,catch balls or pich the side lol ) as long the striker dont get the ball this happen usually on set pieces :)

yeah, shirt tugging is one of the most common trouble defenders get themselves into. u really need to be experienced enough to get away with it, even tho there is no linesman.
thus, i would advise to avoid it at all cost.

Q. Can I get offside directly from a goal kick? No. You can't get offside directly from goal kick, corner and throw in.

Q. Why does the keeper bounce the ball? A. It's actually one of the old rules where keeper needs to bounce the ball first, before moving around the penalty area. It was also an indication that he has the ball under control, thus any form of inception is an infringement. But in today's ruling, keepers are protected and he can move around the penalty area, as long as he release the ball within 5-6 seconds.

Q. Various scenario of getting a straight red card? - use offensive/abusing language/gestures, violent conduct. - serious foul play - spitting at another person - deny clear goal scoring opportunity (by foul or handball) - last defender

Q. What constitutes a handball? A. By blocking or touching the ball using your arm deliberately. And arm here refers to the tip of your fingers, all the way to the top of your arm. The rule is simple, but it is always hard to judge if it is intended. Thus, defenders are advised to keep your hands close to your body in penalty area. Even though when the ball hit your arm, it is at most ball to hand.

Offside Just learnt that some ref would not call for offside if the ball did not reach the attacker. Though I have seen otherwise.

Just to clarify. I suck at drawing so not trying. So just wanna ask. Offiside is intended only for use of the ACTIVE player? meaning if the ball is pumped towards the right sided player whom is onsite but there happens to be a offside player on the left hand side whom is coming back but not interfering with play. Will the ref count it as offside then?

My assumption is that the above scenario would not be counted as offside cos its quite a clear cut case where the player on the left is not interfering with play when the ball was intended for the player on the right who is onsite i think

It depends on the ref i think.....especially when we are playing a match with no linesman........i believe with linesman in an offical match will not flag for offside......
